Alberta Barley and the Alberta Wheat Commission are trying a shared management system.

Alberta Barley hired Tom Steve, GM of the Alberta Wheat Commission, to also be their interim general manager.

With Steve now leading both commissions, the boards of AWC and Alberta Barley have approved to assess the feasibility of combining their management teams over a four-month trial period.

Jason Lenz, Chair of Alberta Barley, says it's an excellent opportunity to build their strong working relationship with the Alberta Wheat Commission.

"By exploring the idea of a single management team, we hope to identify ways to provide greater value to the province’s wheat and barley farmers."

The AWC and Alberta Barley already share office space and administration staff, so this was the next logical move.

The trial will be reassessed early next year.
