The Town of Okotoks will join up with the Town's Municipal Enforcement to host "Summer Cycle Pit Stop" Sunday, July 12.

The event goes from 1 to 4 p.m.and will teach cyclists about bike safety and repair.

Environment and Sustainability Specialist with the Town, Jinny Tofflemire, says they're going to have a pair of tents for bikers to stop in at.

"We're going to be camped out behind the library at that nice grassy spot by the river, we will have two tents there, my repair cafe team and municipal enforcement will be there as well."

Tofflemire says they'll teach cyclists how to make sure their bike is safe to ride.

Municipal Enforcement will be on the scene as well to teach participants about bike safety and let the community know about some of the "rules of the road" when it comes to biking through town.

Some of those rules include: wearing a helmet is always a good option, a new 20 km speed limit for paths and using a warning system when passing.

Tofflemire says they will be giving out bells to some of those coming by.

"We are giving out water because it's supposed to be a hot day and bells for the first people to come through."

Tofflemire says safety is important when biking around town.

"It's really busy right now and it's very important to be safe out there, a helmet is going to save you a lot of grief, potentially from a concussion, you want to be as safe as possible, you don't want to hurt yourself."
