An Okotoks business will be making a generous donation to a local non-profit, after reaching an impressive milestone.

Hub Town Brewing recently announced they had reached 800 mugs with their "Isolation Mug Club," of which $10,000 of the proceeds will be donated to the Okotoks Food Bank Association.

They engraved their 800th mug yesterday.

Owners Mark and Lisa Watts started the club after many of their loyal customers expressed great dismay at Hub Town's closure due to health orders surrounding COVID-19, both because they missed their products and because they missed the business' social atmosphere.

Lisa Watts says she never expected it would see as much success as it has.

"In all honesty, I ordered 96 mugs expecting to maybe sell 50."

She says it wasn't only locals who were chipping in.

"The funny thing was, we had lots of people from all over the world that were buying the mugs. How they found out about them, I will never know. All over Canada, the UK, the US, China, if you can imagine, Australia; they all participated in purchasing mugs to try and raise money for the Okotoks Food Bank."

There's no doubt Hub Town's social media presence played a key role in the club's success, something Lisa says has always seen tremendous support.

"They treat us like family, and we wanted to do the same for them, we want them to feel like they're something that's bigger than themselves. It was easy to get around because people thought it was a good cause and they have always been amazingly supportive since our opening back in September."

They also plan on holding a virtual "cheers" with the clubs many members when the cheque is presented.
