Downtown Okotoks was spicing up summer with Chili Fest on Saturday.

The day kicked off with the Artisan Market Square then for $5 visitors were able to sample chili from 15 different teams vying for the title of best chili.

Sian Anderson, volunteer, says the event was a huge success.

"We had a lot of fun, all the teams were great and everyone had lots of chili to eat. We managed to go to about 1:30 serving chili and we already know we raised over $5,000 today so we're super thrilled by that and can't believe the support we get in the community."

Curves was awarded with most energetic and enthusiastic team.

Anderson says the funds are going towards a special project at Dr. Morris Gibson school.

"We're putting in additions to the Dr. Morris Gibson School playground, specifically to make it more accessible for all kids, both in the community and in the school. We're adding swings this year from the proceeds from last years event so now we're just looking to develop it this year."

Best themed display went to Remax and most enthusiastic and energetic team was awarded to Curves.

Third place for best tasting chili went to Remax, second was Wildrose, and first went to Okotoks Sobeys.
